Both kinds of laser tag use infrared: a tagger sends a coded beam, a sensor on the target player receives it, and the game counts the hit. What changes between an indoor arena and an outdoor field is the distance, the light, the players and the way the business runs. That shapes every part of the equipment.
The guns
Outdoor taggers are built for range and realism. They look and handle like real firearms, from assault rifles and sniper rifles with optics to pistols and machine guns, so players can take on different roles in a scenario.
Indoor blasters are built for the arena rather than for realism. The PULSAR blaster in our Alphatag Arena systems, for example, has a sci-fi body with soft rubber bumpers to protect players, a colour display that stays readable in complete darkness, team lighting and a wireless link to the player's vest.
Hit sensors
Outdoor players usually wear a headband that registers hits and is easy to put on over any clothes. Indoor arenas favour vests: the DEFENDER vest in Alphatag Arena systems connects to the blaster with no cable, and a vest gives a bigger, more visible target in a dark maze.
Game devices and cover
Both formats use game devices such as control points, digital flags and first aid kits for respawns. Outdoor fields often add bombs, mines and grenades for scenario play, and inflatable bunkers to build cover on open ground. Indoor arenas get their cover from the arena itself: walls, obstacles and lighting, planned through arena design.
Electronics and statistics
Outdoor sets come in several electronics generations. The 9th generation plays on any ground with no site preparation and delivers statistics at the end of the game, which suits mobile businesses. The 10th generation adds live statistics for clubs with Wi-Fi coverage and screens. ALPHATAG, the newest, links up to 7 devices to each game set with real-time statistics and a global statistics server. Indoor systems such as Alphatag Arena and CYBERTAG are complete arena platforms, sold by the number of players.

Which should you choose?
- Choose outdoor if you have access to open ground, want scenario games for teenagers and adults, or plan a mobile business that travels to events.
- Choose indoor if you have a fixed building, want year-round play regardless of weather, or serve families and younger children in an entertainment center.
- Combine both when an indoor arena keeps the business steady and outdoor games add events and corporate bookings.
