Description

A scenario device for Fallout and doomsday-style games, first tried at MFL-2019. Players liked it so much they bought the prototype straight after the event.

The mission

The box, in hazard colours, holds a tube of "radioactive" or biohazard material that must be taken out and delivered to a destination. Forcing it open is not an option: you have to crack the electronic lock.

How it plays

  • Shoot the sensor to start decoding a digit, 2 minutes by default. The digit then appears on the display and decoding moves to the next.
  • If an opponent hits the box, a new cycle starts and your progress is wiped. With the defaults, a 6-digit code means holding the box for 12 minutes.
  • Enter the code on the keypad (also shown on the OLED display) and a magnetic lock releases the door.
  • Out of the box, the tube crackles like a Geiger counter and pulses "radiation": stay close too long and you lose 10 health every 30 seconds.
  • Deliver it wherever the scenario says, or use the tube on its own as a radiation artefact.

Power

The box runs on a 7.4 V lithium battery charged with standard Li+ chargers; the tube has its own micro-USB supply. More devices that take the tubes, for mining, power sources or decontamination, are planned.

42 x 30 x 12 cm, 2.3 kg.
